Kilowatt: (KW) is 1,000 watts of electrical power.
Megawatt : (mW) is 1,000 kW of electrical power.
Solar energy : is passive, delivered to your doorstep without a truck or power line. If it needs machinery, such as PV modules or pumps to work in your home, it is active solar power.
Btu : A British thermal unit equals 252 calories and will raise a pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit.
Quad : a quad is a quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000,000) Btus. The world’s energy consuption is about 400 quads per year – with the United States using about one fourth of it.
Volt (V): is a unit of measure of force given the electrons in an electric circuit.
Ampere / amp (A): is a unit of measure of the flow of electrons.
Ohm : is a unit of measure of the resistance to the flow of an electric current. One volt products 1 ampere of current against a resistance of 1 ohm.
Phantom load: A phantom load is a device that draws a small electrical current when plugged in, typically to provide sinstant-on power to a larger device (such as a television) or to transform power from one voltage to another (such as 110V to 4V). If such a device, when plugged into the wall, becomes warm to the touch, it is drawing current.
Home energy audit : an analysis of how things in your home use and loss energy. It checks not only appliances, but also doors and windows. An audit helps you determine where costly energy is wasted.
